More About Us

"We are a very small community with only a few residents. The advantage is that we get to know one another really well"

Camphill Community Mountshannon is located in the southwest of Ireland, in beautiful surroundings with views of Lough Derg in the village of Mountshannon, County Clare. Lough Derg connects three counties: Clare, Galway, and Tipperary.

In our multi-location community, the land and houses are all within walking distance of one another and close to the lakeside and picturesque woodland walks as well as the centre of the village where the office is located.

We are surrounded by nature and an abundance of history such as the mystical Inis Cealtra or Holy Island and the Dolmen stones in Bohatch. We can walk, cycle and boat in our idyllic surroundings and never tire of its allure.

We follow an Integrated Social Care model supporting people with learning difficulties using an holistic approach which focusses on the whole being of the person and their unique abilities. Our Integrated Residential Service includes Day Services, Residential Services and Supported Independent Living Services.

Those of us in need of special care participate with the community in all kinds of different meaningful activities on our land, in our gardens and our Weavery; producing seasonal food, working on the estate, caring for our animals, working on land maintenance, processing wood for the winter and producing high quality crafted items for the home. Activities outside the community include external training, therapies, sports & leisure activities. All of our activities are based around the yearly cycles, the seasonal festivals and the surrounding nature.
